I was so sorry to find out about Mr. Lane's passing. I was visiting the area and happened across his memorial in the Lane Cemetery when I was with my girls.
I had him for Chemistry and Calculus in 1981-83. He was such a great teacher and such a positive influence on so many lives.
He was a wonderful teacher at SLHS when I attended early 1960s. So sorry for your loss( belated, just reviewing obituary’s for Smithville, Becky Charlton(Smart)
My sincere condolences to the Lane family. Willard was a great teacher, coach and colleague. He left an indelible mark on the lives he touched especially at South Lincoln. Willard's wit, humour, commitment to excellence and compassion will be missed.
Dear Margaret Lane and family:
We heard of Mr. Lane's passing with great sadness, from Eugene Cocks, who lives in St. Ann's. We now live in Courtenay, British Columbia. We remember Mr. Lane with great fondness. He taught us both chemistry at SLHS in 1962 and 1963 (Grades 12 and 13). He was also my basketball coach for three years.
He taught me to love chemistry which is what I did for a career. I don't know if he knew that he inspired me to study chemistry and to become a professional chemist but he did, for which I have always been grateful.
All teachers are special and Mr. Lane will always remain one of our most special.
With sincere condolences and deepest sympathy. David and Sharon
Willard was a man of true intelligence and a great teacher to work with and learn from. His presence at South Lincoln left a lasting impression on every student and teacher. I was blessed to have worked with Willard in my first years of teaching and he was the type of teacher we all strived to emulate. I am so sorry I cannot attend on Saturday, but my thoughts and prayers will be with everyone as you celebrate the life of such an amazing man.
Sincerely yours
Cindy Crosbie
We were both saddened to hear of Willards death. He was one of those teachers that no matter how old you become you never forget. You always felt he was there to do the best job he could to help you learn, he wasn't just putting in time. Not only that he didn't think twice about giving you extra time if you needed help. He will not be forgotten.
Our very sincere sympathy.

So sorry to hear of the passing of Mr. Lane. He was, in many ways, an incredible teacher. One of my most respected. Of all the teachers, instructors and professors that I ever had, he certainly had the greatest sense of humour. Fondly remembered.
My sympathies to you all at this time of loss.
Mr. Lane was my favourite teacher at SLHS. You could tell he loved to teach and was always enthusiastic and excited to share his knowledge. My sympathy goes out to your family.
Mr. Lane was my all-time favourite teacher. He had such a wonderful rapport with all of his students, and would always spend extra time with a student who showed a desire to do better. I was never a math or science scholar by any means but through Mr. Lane's commitment and perseverance, I manager to get through them all. A great guy!
Dear Cheryl and family, Please accept our deepest sympathy on the loss of your father. Sincerely, Barb and Travis

A wonderful life of a wonderful man who honed the ability of a young mind to think at the dawn of adulthood. He is woven into the fabric of a generation of students at SLHS and we feel the void with his loss.
He leaves an honoured and lasting legacy for his family to be very proud of.
To Mrs. Lane, Cheryl, Sharon, Sandra, Marcia, Rob and Families. May you be comforted by Mr. Lane's memory and may the day arrive when it brings you a smile rather than a tear.
With sincere condolences and sympathy.

He was always willing to take the extra time to make sure his students understood what he was teaching him. My deepest condolences to his family and friends for the loss of such a great person.
Goodbye Mr. Lane. I will never forget your positive influence on my life. You always used to say "you got it wired" when we figured out a math equation, well Mr. Lane "you got it wired" when it came to being a great person, teacher and mentor. God bless you and may you find the eternal peace that you so deserve.
Mr Lane was such a great support to me in high school. I would have never passed math without him! I still picture him with his fingers pointed and saying "natch ". He will be remembered.
