Thank you Ed for all that you did, your a incredible man. I just seen a video of you and I'm at a loss for words for what you went through. God bless you!
It was an honour to have met and listened Mr. Edwards as guest speaker at the Royal Highland Fusiliers of Canada Sergeants Mess Remembrance Day dinner on 11 November 2014 in Cambridge. He told his story with great passion which I will never forget.

It was with great sadness that we learned of the death of Ed.
We knew him from his work with the POW Association, the Christmas and summer parties that they put on.
Ed was always the life of the party, we have many pictures of him at these events, Lois, such a wonderful lady was one lucky lady.
What a strong character, from his enjoyment of life to his fervent beliefs in freedom, he was an exceptional person.
We will miss you Ed.

My condolences to the family. I never knew him well but have run into him over the years at different Veterans ceremonies and he was always smiling and so very nice, a true gentleman. As I am originally from Montreal myself, I felt a kindred spirit at least. When there is thunder, it will be him laughing and singing and the thunder will not bother me so much anymore.
Thank you for your service.
God Bless
Phil

After I first met Ed st Smithville United Church and heard his story, I knew I was in the company of a great Canadian and a great man. His desire for humankind is one that serves as a shining example for all and will for many years. I am honoured to have met Ed, sung beside Ed and now to say goodbye to him as he continues his mission while in God's hands. Thank you Ed,for being Ed.
And to Ed's family please know by the many people who have come forward to speak about their experiences with Ed and by the many people from around the world who have expressed their sympathy of his passing that you had a great husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Our thoughts and prayers go out to you

I am an educator who was privileged to hear Mr. Edwards speak some years ago. His story, difficult as it was, was delivered with such eloquence. His words resonated for me then and have many days since. I wanted you to know that his legacy will live on in the hearts and minds of the students and educators who bore the honour of listening to him. My sincerest condolences for your loss.
My deepest sympathies to the family. Ed changed my life, for the better. I was privileged to meet him while I was a reporter for the Bay Observer newspaper. I did a story on him, and his life story touched me deeply. He is a true hero. His humanity and kindness, and laugh will always be what I remember.
Although I never met Mr Carter-Edwards, I feel very saddened by his passing. He led an amazing life and was an inspiration to many people. My thoughts and prayers are for him and the family and close friends he has left behind. Per Ardua Ad Astra.
Although I did not know Mr Carter-Edwards personally I think I would be amiss in not thanking this exceptional man for his sacrifice and for having the courage to share his experiences with all of us who enjoy a wonderful life in a beautiful country and most importantly live in peace. There are are no words to express our gratitude. Our sympathy to your whole family in the loss of this special person.
We have had the pleasure for the past 18 years to be next door neighbours with this gracious man!!! We send along our sincerest condolences to Lois, Lianne, Dennis and their families but know that we are all of the same mind to say "thank you Lord for taking Ed at this time", knowing his suffering is over. Our conversations over the years and talks across the back decks will be memories we will cherish for many years to come. Rest in peace Ed. We love you!!
My condolences to the Carter-Edwards family. I have had the opportunity to meet Ed on numerous occasions when he came to speak to the history students at Grimsby Secondary School. I always enjoyed watching how the students responded to Ed and his story. At the end of his presentation, students would line up to get the opportunity to speak with Ed and have a picture taken with him. Ed was always generous with his time and would stay until every student who wanted to speak with him did. We will greatly miss him.
Dear Lois-
You know how much I appreciated your husband and you. It is an end to a long journey for Ed . We will miss him, but will continually think of him. What memories we have of him. R I P - ED.

Thank you Ed for being the living message of tolerance, forgiveness and joy of life for us all. We grieve as one family to another but recognize that Ed packed many lifetimes of memories and experiences over those 94 years and 70 years with Lois at his side, we should wish to be so lucky. It was truly a joy to hear about Ed and Lois' travels and journeys in their later years, as part of world wide remembrance of darker times. Messages sorely needed to be heard today even more so. God Bless, we have you and your family in our thoughts and prayers.
I was fortunate to get to know Mr. Carter-Edwards through the Smithville Medical Centre.
I will miss his jokes and his friendly smile.
My condolences to Lois and the Carter-Edwards Family.

Ed's warm personality and amazing out look on life were a true insperation to me. He will be sadly missed but will definitly live on in the hearts and memories of all that he came into contact with. Rest in peace Ed.
I never had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Carter-Edwards, but I knew of him through my grandfather, F/O Stanley Hetherington, also a prisoner at Buchenwald. Mr. Hetherington spoke fondly of Edward. No doubt there is a reunion of sorts. My condolences to the family.

Ed had no equal. He spoke to thousands of students at Grimsby SS, EL Crossley (Fonthill), Laura Secord SS and Gov. Simcoe SS (St. Catharines). They were entranced by his storytelling and enriched by his authentic message of hope. A collective hug from all those kids to Lois and family.
To Craig and family:
I loved hearing you talk about your granddad, and your mutual visits to Europe re: Buchenwald Concentration Camp. As the first-born child of a Holocaust survivor (2003), I salute him for his service to our country, and for all that he endured in the camp.
May his memory be a blessing to you and to all who knew and loved him.

To Trent and his Family
Sorry for your Loss of a Grandpa and Great Grandpa
It has been said that the best dads get promoted to grandpas. Grandfathers are good listeners, good storytellers, and most importantly, good friends. They are always there to laugh and play with their grandkids and even console them when necessary. Grandfathers are also often the source of sage advice, a benefit of their many years of experience. One thing is for sure, the love of a grandfather is a unique treasure that is never forgotten by their grandchildren. The times spent with a grandfather turn into precious memories that are conserved in the heart, even long after they have passed.
I had the privilege of meeting Mr Ed Carter-Edwards in Weimar in 2014 and talking with him and his grandchild Craig..
I remember his kindness, friendly approach and sense of humour.
My most sincere condolences to Ed's family.

Dear Ed, I am proud to have met you and remember well our discussion about solidarity organised by the international clandestine committee of political prisoners to inmates in Buchenwald and the rescue of the Allied Air Man. I send your family my deepest condolences and unite with them in mourning.
It was your struggle and that of your air man comrades for the liberation of Europe that must never be forgotten! Whether they were fighting as part of the anti-Hitler coalition on the Eastern or Western front, in Africa, Asia or the Pacific, on land, at sea or like you: in the air.
You, as soldiers of the Grand Alliance, were the hope against humiliation and hate to people in Europe like my grandfather, who was prisoner of German death camp Auschwitz-Birkenau, who, like thousand others hoped for liberation. When your plane was shot above France, he was just transported to Buchenwald. Soon, also you, the liberator, were imprisoned in this concentration camp too. Probably you both survived only because of the few anonymous political prisoners that organized relief. We the grandchildren who remain, must keep your legacy and the legacy of all inmates faithfully to the survivors’ pledge of the Oath of Buchenwald for the coming generations:
"The absolute destruction of Nazism is our device!
The building of a new world of peace and freedom is our ideal! «
Thank you Ed! I will never forget your openness, respect and your personal way of looking at the world: in spite of the hard experiences you had always positive and with humor! Rest in Peace!
Your Friend from Poland, Member of the International Committee of Buchenwald Dora

I wish to extend my deepest condolences to the edwards family for the loss of a very good man though i only knew him for a short time he always had a joke ready to make you laugh or just brighten your day with a song. Again my sincerest deepest condolences
It was with tremendous sadness that I learned of Carter's passing. My life has, no doubt, become so much more enriched having had the distinct privilege of having Carter in my life. It certainly was an honour to have had him tell me about the life he had experienced. Respect doesn't even begin to describe my feelings towards Carter. My deepest condolences and prayers go out to Carter's family at this time. Sincerely, Michael.
Ed always had a sparkle in his eye, a kind word for everyone and a larger than life personality. We pray that his familiy's grief will be lessened by the love and support of all of those people's lives that he has touched. God has brought another wonderful choir member home to sing his praises.
We will miss you so very much Ed.
Hugs and prayers.
Ed became a member of our Wing a couple of years ago and all of our lives were enriched because of it. He was always eager to participate in all of our activities even though his health was failing. We will sorely miss his spirit and humor in all that he did and in the end he "put out his hand and touched the face of God".
Ed you will always be in our hearts, thoughts and memories. For all you gave to us in your life, we will continue to give to others through your exceptional example. I will miss you my friend. You will always be with us watching from above ... until we one day will be united again.
Ed Carter Edwards was an amazing man who I had the pleasure of meeting well over 20 years ago. We became fast friends and I marvelled at his zest for life, his love of family especially his beautiful wife Lois and his commitment to making this a better world.
He spoke openly about his horrendous experience in a concentration camp in hopes that it could help eradicate hate. He amazed students far and wide with his story and they honoured him and could not wait to shake his hand. He gave so much to so many.
He will be remembered with love for his humour, his singing and his smile and I will miss my beloved friend.
My husband Dennis also felt so close to Ed and marvelled at his spirit and joy of life.
Good bye dear Ed. You are now with the angels.
With love
Judy and Dennis.

My deepest condolences. I attended Smithville United until I was 17 (in 2003) and will always remember Ed! He was funny and kind and I don't know anyone from my Sunday School group that didn't love him.
I am grateful to have known Ed. He never failed to bring a smile to my face and lighten my day. May your memories of Ed help you as you grieve the loss of this exceptional man.
We met at Tim Hortons, in Smithville, 16 years ago. I met his lovely wife, Lois, then also, the two of them always ordered our beef noodle soup. I found Ed to have a glimmer in his eye and a song in his heart. The three of us had a long conversation about the war, Ed warmed my heart when he said he understood what my fathers family went through in the hands of the Nazis during the war. Ed had a zest for life and appreciated every moment of it. Rest in Peace my good man.
