DEWAR, JACK: Peacefully, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, John William (Jack) Dewar of Smithville, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of 56 years to Marilyn Dewar (nee Jacques). Loving father of Katharine Keizer and Sandra Dewar Cofell. Cherished by grandchildren Melanie Keizer, Jeremy Keizer and Philip Cofell. Dear brother of Chuck (Hazel) Dewar and uncle of Joan Clark and Glen Dewar. Predeceased by his daughter Carol Ann Dewar, and sister Helen Dewar. Jack served in WWII with the RCAF for six years. He was a teacher and vice-principal at South Lincoln High School for 31 years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 393 for over 25 years, and an active member of the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, West Lincoln Historical Society and Smithville United Church. Friends may call at Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday from 6-9 pm. A private family service will be held on Friday, January 26 with interment at Smithville United Church Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Foundation would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
