BARNES, MARJORIE: Peacefully, and with her family by her side, on Friday, December 23, 2005, Marjorie Mabel Barnes (nee Shantry) of Smithville, in her 82nd year. Beloved wife of the late William Barnes (2001). Loving mother of Linda Kennedy (Stan Jones) of Hamilton. Cherished by her grandson Scott Battersby and his wife Joanne of Smithville, great-grandchildren Dylan Battersby and Tricia and Jeff DeBoer, and great-great-grandchildren Stephanie and Ryan. Dear sister of Joyce Shantry and sister-in-law of Edna Shantry. Predeceased by her brother Hank Shantry. Friends called at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 beginning at 9 am. The funeral service was led by Rev. Katie Campion at Merritt Funeral Home in Smithville on Tuesday, December 27, 2005 at 10 am. Joanne Battersby spoke of memories and family life with Marjorie. Ruth Griffin was the organist. Pallbearers were Scott Battersby, Dylan Battersby, Jeff DeBoer, Adam Meindersma, George Kooiman and Jim Keizer. Interment at Bismark United Church Cemetery. If desired, memorial contributions to the Smithville Presbyterian Church or the Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated by the family and can be made through the funeral home.
