Please share a memory of Kenneth to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Kenneth (Ken) Stephen Hunter, 79, passed away on June 27, 2024 in Smithville, ON.

Son of Ivy Archer (Hunter), was born January 19, 1945 in London, England. Never one to like sitting still, once retired he would still be working all day. You would find him volunteering at the Smithville Legion Br. 393, delivering eggs to neighbours, working with his son– in law Ken, helping with the Canadian Open and so much more. He was a great believer in volunteering and being a support in his community. This was demonstrated by his long commitment to the Youth Bowling Counsel (YBC), Special Olympics, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, his various roles in the Burlington Ammature Softball Association (BASA), his dedication to the Smithville Legion Br. 393, and the list goes on.

He was predeceased to heaven by his mother, Ivy Archer. He is survived by his wife Catherine (Kitty), son Cary (Darcie), daughter Lisa (Dave), step-son Sam (Shelann), step-daughter April (Ken); grandchildren Courtney, Vanessa, Wesley, Blake, Ethan, Lucas, Joshua; great grandchildren Oliver, Dominic, and Annabelle; brother Colin (Carol), brother Derek (Sonya); as well as nephews and a niece.

Ken was a deeply beloved husband, father, step-father, papa, uncle, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.

While we lost our most beloved dad, many have lost a friend and loved one in him. He was a rock to many, because no matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he’d be by your side if you needed him. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to us that was his greatest role - he was also a friend, a co-worker and colleague, brother, stand-in paternal figure to the fatherless, a coach, mentor, the list goes on and on.

We invite you to share pictures and/or memories. It was his wish that we laugh and reminisce, and smile together during this time. A Celebration of Life will take place on Thursday July 4, 2024 from 5pm - 8pm at the Smithville Legion Br. 393.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
