Obituary of Susan Elaine McLaren

With sadness we announce the unexpected passing of Susan Elaine McLaren nee Cline.

Born April 25, 1946, passed January 28, 2024, at West Lincoln Hospital with her family at her side. Susan leaves her Loving husband Doug of 53 years, Children Robin Trudel (Pierre) , Cameron McLaren (Erica) grandchildren, Justin Trudel, (Stephanie) Crystal Robidas (Jon), Katelyn Halliday, (Justin), Coral McLaren, Marina McLaren, Lily McLaren, Linden McLaren, and ten great grandchildren, ( Chase, Nash, Emma, Jackson, Michael, Jeremy, Ariel, Gabriel, Castiel, Hunter) and will be greatly missed by all. She was Predeceased by her sister Judith.

Susan started her career as a Pool supervisor and swimming instructor at Hamilton Department of Recreation where she and Doug met and then worked 25 years at Vance Auctions in Smithville. Sue and Doug enjoyed travelling particularly to the warmer climates. Susan enjoyed their time with the Yellowrockers square dance club and was an avid teddy bear maker. She took great pleasure in seeing happiness in others. She was known as Nanny and she lite up whenever she saw the kids, Susan had infinite patience with them. and no child left the house without a cookie in each hand. 

We sincerely thank the staff at WL Hospital for their care of Susan. 

Arrangements have been entrusted to Merritt Funeral Home, Smithville. There will be a celebration of Susan’s life at the Smithville United Church, 116 West St, Smithville, on Saturday, April 13 from 1:00 p.m - 4:00 p.m. If desired, memorial donations to Autism Ontario, South Region would be appreciated and can be made through the funeral home.
